Belize ~ June 2007

We arrived at Ambergris Cay, Belize at 9 a.m. on June 5. We were warmly greeted and check-in was swift and free. While Roy went to check in, Rob, Linda and Geno dove in the warm, aquamarine water and knew they had arrived in paradise. Rob could not believe his eyes -- there were dozens of conchs. After he posed for the photo he returned it to the sea floor.  After spending a few hours ashore we decided to take advantage of brisk winds to sail down to Cay Caulker, which is a little more laid back than Ambergris. We spent a few days at Caulker enjoying the wonderful people, weather and food. Rob and Linda flew out from Cay Caulker (it was wonderful having them with us for 6 full weeks!)

The day after Rob and Linda left, Geno and we sailed to Colson Cay, one of the many uninhabited cays near the barrier reef. It was here that the water pump that made such a horrible racket from day one finally quit. Roy installed a new one, using the "spare," which we had on board for just such an emergency. A few days later we motor sailed to Placencia, on the mainland. We three went to a great restaurant, the Purple Space Monkey and had the special: Conch steak with mashed potatoes or rice, salad or tortilla soup plus desert. Geno flew out the next morning.
